About Barking
Barking Abbey, a former monastery, was well-known as one of the most influential nunneries in the country. Today, though now mostly in ruins, Abbey Green is often used for outdoor classical concerts and has excellent acoustics for residents to enjoy. With a population of 59,000 residents, Barking is a thriving East London suburb. With accessible transport at the heart of the area, bus links are plentiful and frequent, as is the Barking overground train station. The line travels east towards Barking Riverside and West towards Gospel Oak station.
