Billericay
Billericay is a semi-rural town and civil parish located in the county of Essex, in the borough of Basildon. It is situated 25 miles east of Central London, accessible by the A127, which connects Southend to London. Direct rail links take you into Shenfield, Southend and further afield into London Liverpool Street and Victoria Stations. In 2018, the Billericay Action Group reported that a whopping 23% of Billericay residents made the 30-minute daily commute into London for work and an additional 9% of people who drive.
For many years (from 1894 to be precise), Billericay formed part of the nearby hamlet and parish town of Great Burstead, just 6 miles away. However, it was only in 1934 that Great Burstead was abolished, and Billericay became a town and part of the Basildon district. Today, Billericay has an estimated population size of 28,217 and Great Burstead, an urban settlement, as big as a town but without one status.
Billericay high street is home to over 30 independent retail stores. As you venture along this vibrant road, you arrive at Radford Way, just a short 3 miles further. Passed by several restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as Billericay train station, this area offers many options, including entertainment, such as the Billericay Theatre. Billericay displays mixed architecture, with numerous Georgian period houses, Victorian cottages and, of course, more modern architecture from the 90s and early 00s.
Parts of Billericay offer many wooded countryside’s and green spaces for your enjoyment, such as Norsey Wood, with its distant burial mounds and their distant reminders of Bronze and Iron Age occupations. Mill Meadows Nature Reserve is open all year round and offers marked and unmarked trails amid picturesque backdrops and prominent wildlife. True to its rural nature, there is a variety of walking, running and cycling routes in Billericay for you to follow and unwind.
