About Kensington
The inner-city area of Kensington, Liverpool, is situated east of the main city centre. This up-and-coming area is bordered directly to the north of the Everton district. With a population of approximately 13,000 residents, Kensington is a predominately residential area that boasts local conveniences, community spirit and excellent accessibility.
Kensington's distinctive look is made so by the iconic Victorian terraced houses that line most of the homes in the area. The district has immense pride in its most famous former locals, The Beatles and has paid homage by naming streets such as John Lennon Drive, Paul McCartney Way, George Harrison Close, Ringo Starr Drive, Apple Court, and Cavern Court after the successful group.
Since 2000 Kensington has been subject to a vigorous and lucrative regeneration programme, areas of particular consideration have been run-down houses and street safety to ensure the locals feel served and protected in their homes.
Popular among the locals, Kensington is home to the famous Newsham Park, a historic grade two listed park in a conservation area. The park opened in 1868 and is 121 acres of natural beauty - three of the five entrances of this park are in Kensington, the main entrance on Sheil Road and the other two on Prescot Road. The stunningly picturesque park houses the Grade II listed Newsham House, where Queen Victoria once stayed, a Grade II listed Seamen's Orphan Institution, Fishing lakes with roach, and carp, a Children's play area, and a Lakeview Kiosk that is enjoyed by much of the community.
A 10-minute drive will get you from Kensington to Liverpool City Centre, making it an excellent choice for residents looking for a more extensive selection of restaurants, shops, bars and pubs. Popular with students, the area is close to both universities in Liverpool, making it a suitable choice for students attending either John Moores or Liverpool University.
If local is what you are after, Kensington has plenty of eateries, local pubs, and convenience shops to keep the locals more than happy.
