About Torquay

Torquay is a seaside town in Devon, lying 18 miles south of Exeter and 28 miles east of Plymouth. Torquay is a vibrant location where you truly experience the traditional seaside and a mild climate, with its iconic harbourside, complete with 50 high street shops, and restaurant and café options. Look out for the picturesque vies across Tor Bay.

The town’s main industries were fishing and agriculture and historically, it was a place where only a few would stay due to a lack of railway infrastructure. With a low population not many homes were supplied, though as Torquay expanded with transport options, the population grew and developed be a bustling major UK holiday resort.

Things to do in Torquay

Torquay is well known for its world class sailing and international races that take place in its horseshoe shaped bay. The coastline is idyllic and is home to super yachts and its beautiful Torre Abbey Sands. Take a moment to enjoy the long sandy beach along the harbour, complete with is hotels and rock headlands. If you want to venture a little further to grassy pastures, Torre Abbey Meadows welcomes you with its range of activities, picnic areas and gardens.

Kents Cavern is Britain’s oldest known prehistoric cave. A true labyrinth of natural underground passages, Neanderthals are thought to be its very first occupants. The caves are open for tours where you can discover fossils and remains of long forgotten beasts such as the mammoth and woolly rhino. Do also take some time out to discover the Ice Age woodland trail quest with views over the Ilsham Valley. You will not be disappointed.
