Did you know…

Steeped in ancient history, Woodley is a place of modern comforts now, but it has an exciting past that boasts of prehistoric evidence and was home to prominent figures such as previous Prime Ministers.

The area surrounding Woodley has proven records of prehistoric fossils and tools found in and around the area of this village in Berkshire. Items such as axes and flint from 35,000 years ago have been discovered and documented. Much later in the 17th Century, Old Bulmershe Manor, was noted as the birthplace of famous mathematician John Blagrave. Over time the house housed guests including Prime Minister Henry Addington, Willian Pitt the Younger and King George III. During the Second World War, US Army used the house as a base. Much later, the house was sadly demolished and made into commercial space such as education facilities and housing to strengthen and grow the area of Woodley.

About Woodley

Woodley is a village in Berkshire, lying northwest of Reading, on A4 and near the M4 and M25 motorways and Reading and located 4 miles from the towns of Earley Reading and 6 miles from Wokingham, both with rail connections into Reading, London Waterloo and Gatwick Airport.

Since the Second World War, Woodley has grown considerably, with industry relocating from Reading and new housing. Surrounded by green spaces, countryside, hills and lakes, it has a population of around 28 000 people with many high street shops, markets, restaurants and cafes to choose from.

The Woodley Community

It is well-known for its strong community spirit and has a host of events throughout the year, including the annual 'Festival at Woodley' every September. You can expect live music acts from around the world alongside local musicians who perform on three stages throughout the week and at various locations around town.

Local business is prominent in the area, with a mix of nationwide stores and independent businesses. Community groups such as the Woodley Village Association running events that support local businesses as farmers' markets, as well as activities for young children and families who live or study in Woodley (having been ranked as one of the twenty best places to live for families in 2012). For those that enjoy outdoor living, there is plenty to do from breath-taking views in Dinton Pastures Country Park, wine tasting is not far in Stanlake Park or even taking in some history at The Museum of Berkshire Aviation.

We used RE/MAX for the sale of our property. RE/MAX was very helpful from start to finish, always there at the end of the phone when needed. Always chasing for updates. They have been truly amazing! Their costs are also very good value for money when you consider the service they provide. I would highly recommend!
