About Welwyn Garden City

The city, which in fact is technically a town, resides in Hertfordshire, 20 miles north of London. Founded in 1920, Welwyn Garden City is the second Garden City built in England and one of the first new towns making it distinctively more modern in feel than some of its neighbouring towns and villages. 

The city was designed to promote a better way of life. The architect and founder, Sir Ebenezer Howard, saw a new way of living. He wanted to merge the ease and accessibility of city living with the beauty and calm of rural England. The idea was to create a healthier, more balanced quality of life for its residents.
